MACAdams, San Francisco Closes Its Doors

An update from our earlier feature article on the straining ties between Apple and its resellers, we find MACAdams closing its doors after serving Mac users for the past 16 years. Our heart goes out to owner, Tom Santos. MACAdams first began selling Macs in 1989 and became an authorized Apple reseller in 1991, but later lost that designation after it filed a lawsuit against Apple in 2003 along with five other resellers.

In a letter to customers, Santos said that “the consistent bad behavior of our number one supplier, Apple Computer” has made it “so difficult to both get product in a timely fashion and treat our customers with the respect that they currently treat their Apple Direct customers. We have tried everything to resolve these problems over the last 4 plus years, yet our requests for help have simply gone unanswered.”.

Six Apple resellers filed a reseller lawsuit against Apple claiming Apple is driving them out of business by opening its own chain of retail stores, according to Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. The Apple resellers, accuse Apple Computer of breach of contract, unfair competition, intentional interference with economic advantage and other offenses.
