A quick search at The US Patent And Trademark web site, will reveal that Apple has recently registered ‘Bonjour’ as a trademark to replace ‘Rendezvous’. This change has been reflected in the latest Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger seed where all references to ‘Rendevouz’ have been replaced with ‘Bonjour’. The change comes in light of copyright litigation against Apple over the ‘Rendevouz’ name.. A shame really, because I personally favoured ‘Rendevouz’ over ‘Bonjour’.
There’s also rumours of a Bluetooth iPod on the way, so you might want to hang on before taking the hammer to your iPod piggybank.
More details inside!
‘Rendezvous’ No More
‘Rendezvous’ is Apple’s trademark reference to what is more popularly known in the industry as ‘Zero Configuration Protocol.’ Where devices attached to a network have the ability to assign their own IP addresses and identify themselves over a network.
The most common examples of this technology in action include Mac friendly printers and the Apple Airport wireless products. Rendezvous is also applied when iChat AV is used in Instant Messaging over networks.
Bluetooth iPod?
Once again, the Mac rumour mill is running over time with reports of a Bluetooth iPod in the making. I’ve been mulling over purchasing an iPod for the longest time, but every time I come close, some rumour or other thwarts my enthusiasm. This is no exception.
Mac4Ever.com, a French Mac site recently published news regarding a recent radio interview with Bogdan Nedelcou, car product manager of Motorola, where he was cited mentioning that soon consumers will be able to listen to iPods through their car speakers wirelessly. Suggesting an upcoming wireless iPod that might include Bluetooth technology.
