The long wait is finally over. Apple announced the release date of the much anticipated update to their current, Mac OS X 10.3 Panther operating system. Although slated to be released from 1800hrs onwards on 29 April 2005 in USA, the international release dates are yet to be announced.
Packed with more than 200 brand new features Tiger looks poised to set the Mac world a buzz once again. The single-user license version retails at USD129.00 whilst a single-residence five user license Family Pack retails at USD199.00.
For those who purchased a qualifying Mac system from Apple or an authorised Apple Reseller, on or after 12 April 2005, a standard Mac OS Up-To-Date package is available for a shipping and handling fee of USD9.95. Despite earlier consumer concerns of missing out on Tiger if they bought a Mac close to Tiger’s release date, this might present a unique opportunity to own not one but TWO Mac operating systems if you run out and purchase a Mac system before 29 April 2005(!). The only setback is having to own a Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger update disk as opposed to a full version, which causes only minimal inconvenience of having to install Panther first followed by Tiger.
If you must be one of the first to get your hands on Tiger, Apple online store is currently accepting pre-orders.
Tiger requires a minimum of 256MB of memory and is designed to run on any Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G5, G4, or G3 processor and built-in FireWire.
