Good news for iPod Shufflers! There’s now a FM Transmitter available from XtremeMac, dubbed the AirPlay for iPod Shuffle. Sadly, we have to report that its a product that brings about mixed feelings.
iPod Shufflers, the long wait is over and you can finally listen to your Shuffle in the comfort of your car. I say car, because, that’s about the only feasible place that the AirPlay for iPod Shuffle will operate. This, owing to the fact that it requires additional power from your cigarette lighter jack of your car. The plus factor to all this, is that it also doubles up as a charger to keep your iPod Shuffle playing so long as your car’s running.
Like its AirPlay for iPod sibling, this AirPlay is also a “plug it in, tune it and press play”, solution. No software installation is necessary. At press time, we have not managed to secure a unit for testing but we are keeping our fingers crossed that it does not suffer from similar background noise issues as the original AirPlay for iPods.
So in conclusion, its a brilliant product but prospective buyers have to contend with the fact that it requires a cigarette lighter jack to function. Making it not as portable as its AirPlay for iPod sibling but a good solution nonetheless if you want to listen to your Shuffle tunes in your car. Outside of you car, we’ll have to make do with a good set of audio jacks. Then again, with the Shuffle maxing out at 1GB outside the car, your Mac at home would probably do the trick!
