A couple of years ago, the DivX video codec came onto the scene as a high compression standard for video. Along with it features that proposed to provide similar features and functions you would expect to find in your common DVD movie. Effectively, touting to bring DVD quality video over the Internet.
After unpacking your brand new Mac, one of the things to do was to head over to the DivX website to download the latest Mac-friendly version of their DivX codec. A short install later and your Quicktime player plays DivX formats and suddenly you’ll find that even avi files sporting the DivX formats can be played right out of your Quiktime player.
Sadly, the DivX boys have some catching up to do this time round to get things up to speed with Tiger. This notice can be seen at their DivX for Mac page:
“DivX 5 does not support Mac OS X 10.4 or QuickTime 7. We are working with Apple to resolve several compatibility issues.”
