CodeWeavers, Running Windows Applications Natively On Mac OS X With CrossOver

CodeWeavers recently, announced the coming availability of CrossOver for Mac OS X. Running off Wine, originally an open source implementation of Windows API that sits on top of X11 and Linux. Wine and CrossOver purport the ability to run regular Windows-based apps natively on a MacIntel platform. Negating the need for a dual boot MacIntel.

The implications of this, could cause a paradigm shift in personal computing. When Apple first announced the availability of Boot Camp, that allows Windows booting from a separate partition, typical Windows users started taking a second look at Macs as an alternative to the mundane PC platform. This offered the prospect of cost savings, plus the ability to run and experience dual operating systems by purchasing just one platform.

Wine and CrossOver take this further. Microsoft may have bigger problems than just the delayed Vista operating system. Imagine a world where, we no longer need Windows but could still retain the use of Windows-based apps.

In 1978, founders Matt and Hendricks were looking for a tech event to showcase their new startup. When they couldn’t find one that checked all the boxes they decided to host their own. As they were organizing things, they soon realized they needed somewhere to promote the conference, and that’s how newsweb.com was launched. It later became a blog and the result is what you are looking at right now.
