The introduction of the Mac Pro and Xserve going Intel completes the Mac line-up transition from PPC to Intel – legitimising the synomous phrase “MacIntel”. Mr Jobs has kept his promise this time, with the entire Mac line-up going Intel before the end of 2006. In stark contrast to the time when Mr Jobs promised a super fast PowerMac the last time round but IBM failed to deliver.

This ‘new era’ also ushers in, among other things, Mac OS X Server Admin Tools 10.4.7. These tools can be downloaded for free (50MB download) at the Apple Support site and are meant to be used in conjunction with Apple’s Mac OS X Server editions. Mostly for remote administration.

You can download and install them, even if you don’t have Mac OS X Server (if you just want to dazzle your mates and make them think you’re a major Mac techie).

Server Admin Tool 10.4.7 has finally matured into a Universal application and purports to administer Mac OS X Server whether it sits on a PPC or Intel platform.

Server administrators and System Engineers alike, can now breathe a sigh of relief because unlike previous versions, it includes an updated System Image Utility application for creating NetBoot and NetInstall all images of Intel-based Macs. Here’s the complete list of installed applications:
